Art

Recently I got a rare day alone in the apartment. It was quiet, peaceful, and I could feel that creative flow. I never knew how much I need to be alone to really be able to let creative contemplation and curiousity find it’s way out. There is a difference in my mental space when I am completely alone. Covid helped to uncover this as I have always been the one home alone. Anyway, I got busy.

I used way too much precious alone time setting up a camera so that I could make a video of myself doing my art. You know, so that I could prove that I did it. (see previous post) I chose to draw something that included Dexter, something very familiar. This is not supposed to be a masterpiece, just a test, and a visit with Dexter, and just getting something down on paper since it has been awhile.

The hours ticked on. Don’t be fooled by my speedy handwork, it is called time-lapse and watching me work in real time would bore the sh!t out of you. Working on something that was just for me, a doodle, playing around, definitely helped me to not worry about the camera capturing every wrong stroke. It is hard to forget that it is there.

Honestly, I don’t think you can ever forget that you are under a microscope, and for some people that can create great things, I am sure. Maybe knowing your actions are being documented will create something even more unique, make your work more dynamic or add extra precision or something. I am not really happy about it yet but trying to go with the flow and see if I can even keep up with doing videos. Seems like I might need to add some educating of video production and so forth on to the to-do list as well. But for now, I have finished a little story about Dexter, proudly walking the streets of Södermalm, titled The Mayor.
