A Little Life

Have you read the book A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara? It is a long one, and a hard read. I have listened to the audible version, been gifted the book and now seen the movie. The movie was just released this September, or early October and it is actually the filming of a stage performance. It is 3 hours and 40 minutes and there is an intermission after 90 minutes. I am really glad I already knew the story, but overall it was really well performed and visually understandable. There are times when it is told in the past and that all read really well in the stage performance.

It is a sad story, with some very hard truths. There are bad people in the world. And there are loving, caring people. I am not going to get into any real plot, story unfolding, but will add that this story is not for everyone. It involves self harm, friendships, abuse and trust, so some good, some bad. There was not a dry eye in the theatre when it concluded.

What I will share is this quote, said by Harold, a character that deeply loved and tried to care for his friends. And this quote has stuck with me, and I feel it is appropriate for I just lost Dexter and with the state of angst in the current world. Be kind.

And so I try to be kind to everything I see, and in everything I see, I see him.
